For industrial facilities managing high-strength or complex wastewater, traditional membrane technologies have often proven inadequate – especially when oil & grease, COD, turbidity, or elevated suspended solids are present. ZwitterCo Expedition membranes change that. Built with our revolutionary ZwitterCore™ technology, Expedition membranes offer a resilient, high-performance solution to treat wastewater streams that were once considered untreatable. Their rugged design and exceptional fouling resistance enable water reuse and treatment strategies that were previously out of reach, unlocking new possibilities for industrial operators seeking reliability, compliance, and sustainability.
Unlocking New Applications with Superfiltration
At the heart of Expedition is an innovative category of membrane: Superfiltration. Sitting between conventional ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF), Superfiltration combines the best of both worlds. Expedition SF membranes deliver better-than-UF permeate quality, including partial rejection of dissolved organics, without requiring the pretreatment or operating complexity associated with NF or biological processes.
The unprecedented resistance to organic fouling, especially from oil & grease and organic matter allows Expedition membranes to offer a chlorine tolerance of 2.5 million ppm-hours and maximum operating temperatures up to 60°C, making them suitable for the most demanding environments.
Built for Industry, Designed for Integration
ZwitterCo Expedition membranes come in multiple spiral-wound configurations and are offered with fiberglass housings and oil-resistant components to ensure robust, long-term operation. Whether used as standalone pretreatment systems or integrated with downstream reverse osmosis (RO), these membranes are inherently modular and deliver consistent performance across a wide range of operating conditions.
The product family is organized to support multiple use cases:
- High Flux Configurations: Typically for large-scale systems (1+ MGD) with moderate fouling risk, such as primary treated industrial wastewater.
- High Strength Configurations: For smaller installations (50–500 GPM) treating extreme COD, TSS, or oil concentrations, such as landfill leachate, poultry wastewater, or digestate.
Recovery rates of 95% or higher are possible in both configurations, with membrane lifetimes are typically expected to be 3–5 years depending on application.
A System Backed by Service
What truly sets Expedition apart isn’t just the membrane – it’s the end-to-end support. For select projects, ZwitterCo offers comprehensive service plans that include membrane replacements, cleaning chemicals, commissioning, remote support, and site visits. This allows customers to lock in predictable OPEX and operate with confidence, knowing that performance guarantees are in place and fouling risk is underwritten by ZwitterCo.
Expedition elements can also be paired with ZwitterCo-engineered systems, designed specifically for Superfiltration applications. These systems come in standard and custom configurations, and are available with performance-based service plans to ensure long-term success.
Turning Wastewater into a Resource
With ZwitterCo Expedition, industrial facilities can turn wastewater from a liability into an asset. Whether the goal is to reduce discharge, enable reuse, or streamline treatment processes, Expedition delivers a filtration-first approach that is simple, scalable, and cost-effective.
This is not just another membrane. This is a platform for industrial progress—designed to make water reuse practical, even under the most difficult conditions.
